Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

Manuscript Types

Lingua Montenegrina publishes:

  • Original Research Articles – unpublished results of theoretical or practical research.
  • Preliminary Communications – urgent scientific data requiring rapid dissemination.
  • Reviews – critical, analytical overviews of a specific field.
  • Professional Papers – informative contributions or overviews of a subject area.
  • Book and Journal Reviews – evaluations of scholarly publications.

Language & Abstracts

  • Primary language: Montenegrin.
  • Also accepted: other Slavic languages, English, German, French, and Italian.
  • All manuscripts must include:
    • Abstract (≤200 words) in the manuscript language.
    • Abstract in English (≤300 words).
    • Keywords (4–8) in the manuscript language, and 4–10 keywords in English.

Formatting Requirements

  • File format: Microsoft Word (.docx) is mandatory; PDF optional.
  • Font & spacing: Times New Roman, 12 pt; 1.5 line spacing.
  • Page numbering: Continuous, from title page to references.
  • Word limit: Maximum 8,000 words (including footnotes, excluding references).
  • Paragraphs: First line indented; line skipped between paragraphs and before each chapter title.
  • Chapter titles: Capitalised; subchapters begin with capital letters.

Structure of Manuscript

Each manuscript must include:

  1. Title Page
    • Author(s) full name(s) (Latin/Cyrillic)
    • Affiliation(s) and institution(s)
    • Correspondence details (full address, telephone, email)
  2. Title of the Paper (in manuscript language; bold, 14 pt)
  3. Abstract and Keywords (manuscript language + English)
  4. Main Text
  5. Figures and Tables (see section 5)
  6. References (see section 6)

Figures & Tables

  • Figures: High-resolution images (jpg, bmp, or Excel/graph files). Include bilingual captions: e.g., Slika 1. Grafički prikaz istraživanja / Figure 1. Graphical representation of the study.
  • Tables: Numbered, placed at the end of the manuscript, with bilingual captions: e.g., Tabela 1. Rezultati istraživanja / Table 1. Research results.
  • Text references: Indicate location of figures/tables in the main text.
  • Obtain permission for any previously published visuals.

References

  • Style: Harvard author-date system.
  • In-text citation examples:
    • Single author: (Jakobson, 1960) or Jakobson (1960)
    • With page: (Jakobson, 1960: 43)
    • Two authors: (Wellek and Warren, 1965)
    • Three or more: (Skreb et al., 1986)
    • Multiple works: (Rotković, 1979; Nikčević, 1982; Kalezić, 1990)
  • Reference list: Alphabetical by first author, include full bibliographic details.

Submission Process

  • Manuscripts must be submitted through the journal’s online submission system (accessible via the “Make a Submission” link on the website).
  • Submissions must include:
    1. Cover Letter – confirming originality, unpublished status, absence of simultaneous submission, funding disclosure, and any conflicts of interest.
    2. Manuscript File – prepared in accordance with the Author Guidelines.
    3. Supplementary Files (if applicable) – such as figures, tables, appendices, or research data.

By submitting, authors confirm that:

  • The manuscript is original, unpublished, and not under review elsewhere.
  • All co-authors have approved the submission.
  • The research complies with the Law on Academic Integrity of Montenegro, the journal’s Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement (PEMS), and international standards (COPE, Crossref Similarity Check).

All submissions undergo initial screening for plagiarism and ethical compliance before being sent for peer review.

  • The Editorial Office acknowledges receipt within 7 days.
  • Manuscripts are then assigned for double-blind peer review.
  • The typical review timeline is up to 3 months.
  • Final acceptance depends on successful peer review, author revisions, and editorial approval.
